Modi govt may write off Governors appointed by UPA-II

Narendra Modi
New Delhi, June 17: After a huge fallout in the last Lok Sabha elections, the UPA-II government may have to part ways with the seats that they held as Governors to various states.

The Narendra Modi government is now considering replacement of Governors of Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Punjab, that were appointed by the Congress.

The Governor of Uttar Pradesh is BL Joshi, Kerala - Sheila Dikshit, Punjab - Shivraj Patil, Madhya Pradesh - Ram Naresh Yadav and West Bengal - MK Narayanan. Sheila Dikshit was appointed the Governor of Kerala after the Assembly election debacle last December. Sources say that, apart from BL Joshi no one else has voiced their resistance.

The government is likely to ask President Pranab Mukherjee to ask for their resignation. Earlier, BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi was being seen as front runner for the post of Governor in poll-bound Maharashtra.
