Modi best PM since independence, says a survey

While 25 percent of those who polled thought PM Modi's performed was average, an overwhelming 41 percent people rated his performance as good.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to remain on top in the popularity rankings as he received a whopping 53 percent people's backing as the next prime minister in an India Today-Karvy poll.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi was the second best for the post of India's prime minister with the backing of 22 percent, as per the survey.

Responding to a question on best prime minister in Independent India, 28 percent of those polled think Modi is the best prime minister while 20 percent think Indira Gandhi was the best.

While 25 percent of those who polled thought PM Modi's performed was average, an overwhelming 41 percent people rated his performance as good.

About the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the the India Today-Karvy survey predicted that if the general elections were held today, then NDA may win 258 of 543 seats which is 24 seats down from 282 it had won in 2014. The poll predicted that UPA's vote share may increase.

In another survey conducted by C-Voter, the NDA is expected to win 279 seats this time as opposed to the 282 in previous elections. Even in this survey, Modi emerged as the most preffered choice as the Prime Minister, while Rahul Gandhi was distant second.
