Modi Becomes Most Followed World Leader On Instagram With 100 Million

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the first global head of government to cross 100 million followers on Instagram, setting a new social media benchmark. PM Modi, who joined Instagram in 2014, now has a larger following than any other world leader on the platform.

Even when the next five major world leaders are combined, their Instagram audiences still fall short of PM Modi's individual total. This contrast highlights the scale of engagement around PM Modi's account, which features official updates, personal moments, and key policy messages for followers.

Among global counterparts, US President Donald Trump has 43.2 million followers on Instagram. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has 15 million followers, while Brazilian President Lula has 14.4 million followers. Turkish President Erdogan stands at 11.6 million followers, and Argentine President Javier Milei has 6.4 million followers.

Within India, PM Modi also dominates the Instagram presence among political figures. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath holds second place with around 16.1 million followers. Rahul Gandhi follows with approximately 12.6 million followers, underlining the significant gap between PM Modi and other domestic leaders.

As the online following grows, PM Modi is currently on a two-day official visit to Israel. During this visit, the Israeli Parliament honoured PM Modi with the highest distinction of the Knesset, the "Speaker of the Knesset Medal". The medal recognised PM Modi's role in strengthening ties between India and Israel.

The Knesset stated that the medal recognised PM Modi's "exceptional contribution through his personal leadership" to deepen strategic cooperation between the two countries. The honour was presented after PM Modi addressed the Israeli Parliament. Following the address, PM Modi met and spoke with several members of the Knesset inside the chamber.

During the address, PM Modi received a standing ovation from the Israeli lawmakers. PM Modi said that India holds deep respect for Israel's resilience and progress, noting the admiration for Israel's "resolve, courage, and achievements" in India. The remarks came as both countries highlighted their long-standing partnership.

"Long before we related to each other as modern States, we were linked by ties that go back more than two thousand years. The Book of Esther refers to India as Hodu. The Talmud records trade with India in ancient times," he said. The comment underscored historical links that continue to influence present-day relations.
