"For the powerful to capture the present they have to distort the past. To show us they can show us a perfect future they have to show a perfect past. India had great strengths but there were also weaknesses. Nothing alive is ever perfect. The BJP wants to paint a lie over India," he said. He added that Narendra Modi and the RSS wanted India to surrender its voice.

Rahul Gandhi took pots shots at media as well as the government over demonetisation. "The media in private called demonetisation 'insanity' but on record, they called it a stroke of genius," he said. Adding that the government was attempting to take India back to an era of oppression and untouchability, Rahul Gandhi called it an attempt to undo Dr B R Ambedkar's efforts.

"The aim is to mutilate the Constitution. The idea is to do to one man, one vote what they did to Vemula and Akhlaq," Rahul Gandhi said.
