Moderate quake strikes China, 5 injured
Beijing, Dec 6: At least five persons were injured today when a moderate 5.8-magnitude earthquake jolted China's southwest Yunnan Province.

The tremor struck at 2:43 am (local time) at Jinggu County, Pu'er City. The quake hit at a depth of 9 kilometres, according to China Earthquake Networks Centre. Zhang Jianguo, of Yunnan Disaster Prevention Research Institute, believed the quake was a strong aftershock of an earlier one on October 7 that killed one person and injured over 300.
Epicenters of the two quakes were 10 kilmetres apart, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported. "After the previous quake, people at the zone were evacuated," he said, adding that the aftershock would not result in heavy casualties. The tremor lasted for less than one minute.
