Army firing in Jammu Kashmir: Moderate Hurriyat asks NHRC to probe

"It is necessary to take up the matter and make an impartial investigation into the incident so that the guilty are brought to justice...," the Human Rights Division of the Hurriyat said in its petition to the NHRC.
The petition maintained that the incident reportedly occurred when troops belonging to the Army's 53-Rastriya Rifles battalion opened fire on a Maruti Car in which four civilians were travelling.
Two youths were killed and two others were injured, who have been admitted to a hospital.
"Please note that the four youths travelling in a car are civilians and nothing incriminating was found from the possession of the slain or injured youths," the petition said.
