Mobile phone found in Tarun Tejpal's prison cell

Tarun Tejpal
Panaji (Goa), Feb 24: In a surprise raid conducted on the cells of Sada sub-jail in Goa's Vasco city, police found a cell phone from cell no. 14, which houses ex-Tehelka editor-in chief Tarun Tejpal.

Incidentally, it was among the 9 cell phones seized from the jail by Sub-divisional Magistrate Gaurish Shankhwalkar. Some of the other things seized from the other cells included Headphones, MP3 players, cigarettes and tobacco packets.

As Tejpal's cell lodged four other inmates, it is still unclear whether the mobile phone belongs to him. Inspector General Prisons Mihir Vardhan confirmed the raid and said that Tejpal denied owning a phone there.

He also said that he is yet to get the details of the phone. Tejpal is in police custody since the past 2 months for allegedly raping a junior colleague.
