MNS Activists Confront Bank Manager Over Marathi Language Use in Thane District
Tensions escalated in Ambernath on Wednesday when Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists confronted a bank manager for not using Marathi. The incident occurred at a nationalized bank in Thane district, where party members accused the manager of neglecting the state's official language while dealing with customers.

A video of the confrontation quickly gained traction on social media. It depicted MNS activists banging on tables, pushing a computer monitor, and shouting at the manager to converse in Marathi. Despite the aggressive approach, the manager remained composed, explaining that as part of an All India Service, he could use any permissible language for official communications.
Marathi Language Campaign
The local unit of the Raj Thackeray-led party confirmed its involvement in the incident. However, it is still unclear if any police complaint has been filed regarding this altercation. The bank manager's response highlighted the challenge of learning a new language instantly, as he mentioned in the video that such skills take time to develop.
In another related effort, Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) activists continued their campaign to safeguard the Marathi language. Sandeep Pachange, general secretary of the MNS student wing, led a delegation to meet the Education Officer at Thane's Zilla Parishad. They submitted a memorandum demanding strict action against English medium schools that prevent students from speaking Marathi.
The MNS activists' actions reflect ongoing efforts to promote and protect Marathi in Maharashtra. The party has been vocal about ensuring that Marathi is used in various public and private sectors across the state.
The incident at the bank underscores broader tensions surrounding language use in Maharashtra. It highlights ongoing debates about linguistic identity and cultural preservation within the state.
