MK Gandhi's grandson Rajmohan Gandhi joins AAP

New Delhi, Feb 21: Eminent thinker and writer Dr Rajmohan Gandhi officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party on Friday. (See pictures below the article)

A supporter of the AAP for past few months, Rajmohan Gandhi is likely to get an AAP ticket in the Lok Sabha polls to contest from one of the seven seats in Delhi.

The 78 years old Gandhi is the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and the eldest son of Mahatma's youngest son Devadas Gandhi. Rajmohan Gandhi's younger brother Gopalakrishna Gandhi was the Governor of West Bengal and ambassador to many countries. Another brother and eminent writer, Ramachandra Gandhi died a few years ago. Their mother is the daughter of Rajaji.

"I joined the party looking at the enthusiasm. The party has grown from the roots. It does not see politics as dirty and something that should be avoided", said Gandhi.

Reportedly, AAP is trying to get Rajmohan Gandhi contest against Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha polls due by May.

"I'm open to contesting but contesting against Narendra Modi is a very long shot. At one point, the Congress was an aam aadmi party, now it is the khas aadmi party. BJP is the rich man's party", said Gandhi.

Rajmohan Gandhi had contested against Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi from Amethi in 1989 with a Janata Dal ticket and had lost. He has been teaching history at various Indian and American universities. He has authored a book on Sardar Patel.

The AAP released its first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha election on Sunday and may release another set of names soon. Adarsh Shastri, grandson of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, industrialist Rajiv Bajaj and popular singer Rabbi Shergil are likely to figure in the second list, the sources said.
