On Tuesday, Mizoram commemorated its 37th statehood day, with Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati extolling the historic Mizoram peace accord signed in 1986 as a beacon of enduring peace and prosperity. Addressing an official function in Aizawl, the governor highlighted the accord's role in ending two decades of insurgency and ushering in an era of peace and stability in the region.

Mizoram Peace Accord: A Catalyst for Peace and Stability
The Mizoram Peace Accord, signed between the Centre and the erstwhile underground Mizo National Front (MNF) led by late Laldenga, marked a pivotal moment in the state's history. This accord brought an end to the protracted insurgency and paved the way for Mizoram to become a full-fledged state in June 1986. Governor Kambhampati lauded the accord as a shining example of how dialogue and reconciliation can lead to lasting peace and prosperity.
Preserving Peace and Stability for Progress
Governor Kambhampati emphasized the significance of preserving the hard-earned peace and stability for Mizoram's continued progress. He urged the people to cherish the fruits of their struggles and the sacrifices made during the turbulent years leading to statehood. Drawing attention to the challenges faced by neighboring regions, the governor called for a reaffirmation of the state's commitment to peace and stability.
Mizoram: A Model of Peaceful Elections
The governor commended the people of Mizoram for their active participation in the electoral process and the disciplined manner in which elections were conducted in the state. He expressed his belief that Mizoram's peaceful elections serve as an exemplary model for other states to emulate.
Zoram Peoples Movement Government's Commitment to Development
Governor Kambhampati acknowledged the efforts of the newly formed Zoram Peoples Movement (ZPM) government, led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, in its dedication to fostering the overall development of the state. Chief Minister Lalduhoma, addressing the celebration, reiterated his government's commitment to taking necessary steps to promote growth and progress, even if it entails making tough decisions.
Statehood Day Celebrations
To mark the statehood day, mass prayer programs were held in Aizawl, Lunglei, and other parts of Mizoram. These gatherings reflected the deep sense of unity and gratitude among the people of Mizoram as they celebrated this significant milestone in their state's history.
Mizoram's 37th statehood day celebration served as a poignant reminder of the state's remarkable journey from insurgency to peace and prosperity. The Mizoram peace accord stands as a testament to the transformative power of dialogue and reconciliation, while the state's commitment to preserving peace and stability continues to inspire hope for a brighter future.
