Mizoram Chief Minister Advocates for Youth Employment Opportunities Abroad

In a significant move to address the high unemployment rate exacerbated by the country's economic challenges, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has called upon the state's youth to gear up for employment opportunities abroad. This appeal was made during the inauguration of Zofa Agency in Aizawl, a private placement agency sanctioned by the Union Ministry of External Affairs, highlighting a strategic shift towards skill development and global job markets.

CM Eyes Overseas Jobs for Mizoram Youths

Lalduhoma pinpointed the nation's struggling economy as a key factor behind the soaring unemployment rates. He emphasized the importance of readiness among job-seekers to embrace opportunities for work overseas, including positions that may offer lower wages. The Chief Minister's remarks underscored a proactive approach to combat unemployment through international employment.

The government of Mizoram is actively exploring avenues to facilitate employment for Mizo youths in various countries such as Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and regions in southern India. This initiative is part of a broader strategy underlined by the enactment of the Mizoram Private Placement Agencies Regulation Act in 2015. The legislation aimed at regulating private placement agencies within the state has led to the issuance of licenses to 27 agencies dedicated to assisting unemployed youths in finding jobs beyond state borders.

However, Lalduhoma also shed light on recent regulatory actions where licenses were revoked from agencies that exceeded their operational boundaries as defined by the Act. This year witnessed the cancellation of licenses for agencies found in violation of these regulations, leading to legal actions against 29 individuals involved in illicit overseas employment activities.

The state's law enforcement has been actively involved in rescuing Mizo youths from precarious situations abroad. Recent operations have successfully brought back more than 30 individuals from countries like the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. Additionally, efforts are currently underway to rescue three Mizo women stranded in Syria, highlighting the government's commitment to safeguarding its citizens on foreign soil.

This initiative by the Mizoram government not only aims at reducing unemployment among the youth but also ensures their safety and welfare in foreign nations. By focusing on skill development and legal avenues for overseas employment, Mizoram is taking significant steps towards providing its youth with viable opportunities for growth and prosperity.
