Mizoram Assembly Elections Result 2023: Counting Postponed To December 4
On Friday, the Election Commission Of India revised the date for counting votes in Mizoram to December 4, instead of December 3.
A notification released by the election governing body reads, "The Commission has received several representations from various quarters requesting for change in date of counting from December 3, 2023 (Sunday) to some other weekday, on the ground that December 3, 2023, being Sunday a special significance for the people of Mizoram. The Commission, having considered these representations, has decided to revise the date of counting for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram from December 3, 2023 (Sunday) to December 4, 2023 (Monday)," said the ECI in a release

Voting for Mizoram's 40 constituencies happened on November 7, Tuesday and the counting was slated for December 3, Sunday earlier along with 4 other states- Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, and Telangana.
As per the reports, the voter turnout recorded was 78.40 percent in Mizoram and now the fates of 174 candidates, contested over 40 seats, will be decided on December 4.
Along with political parties, the civil society groups in the Christian majority had requested the commission to postpone the date for counting from Sunday to any other day. Sunday is considered a day of worship for the Christians and thus counting may affect prayer timings for the people involved in election duties.
