Body of Missing Journalist Mukesh Chandrakar Found in Septic Tank in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh
The body of Mukesh Chandrakar, a 33-year-old journalist, was discovered in a septic tank on a contractor's property in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. This discovery led to a murder investigation, according to police reports. Mukesh, who worked as a freelance journalist and ran the YouTube channel 'Bastar Junction' with 1.59 lakh subscribers, had been missing since January 1.

His brother, Yukesh Chandrakar, reported his disappearance to the police on January 2. Using Mukesh's mobile phone data, authorities traced his last known location to a property owned by contractor Suresh Chandrakar in Chattanpara Basti, Bijapur. Upon arrival, they found Mukesh's body and subsequently registered a murder case.
Investigation and Suspects
Police have detained several suspects for questioning regarding the murder. However, details about how Mukesh was killed or whether Suresh Chandrakar is among those detained remain undisclosed. The police are awaiting the autopsy report to gather more information about the cause of death.
Local journalists have suggested that Mukesh had previously reported on irregularities in road construction projects in the area. This has raised concerns about whether his work might be linked to his untimely death.
Reactions from Authorities
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow over Mukesh's death. "The news of the murder of Bijapur's young and dedicated journalist Mukesh Chandrakar ji is very sad and heartbreaking," he wrote on X. He assured that those responsible would be apprehended swiftly.
The Chief Minister further stated, "The culprit will not be spared under any circumstances. I have given instructions to arrest the criminals as soon as possible and ensure the harshest punishment for them." His statement underscores the seriousness with which the state is treating this case.
The tragic loss of Mukesh Chandrakar has sent shockwaves through the journalism community and society at large. As investigations continue, there is hope for swift justice for Mukesh and his family.
