MP representing Erode wants CBI probe into online turmeric trading

In a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, A Ganeshamurthy, MDMK MP representing Erode Lok Sabha constituency, alleged that a number of malpractices had occurred in the NCDEX on turmeric trading and sought a CBI inquiry.
He also demanded that turmeric be removed from online trading immediately as farmers were not getting reasonable price for their produce. Ganeshamurthy also wanted the Prime Minister to take steps for formation of Turmeric Development Board and also fix the turmeric price at Rs 9000 a quintal now.
Meanwhile, P. K. Deivasigamani, Chairman, Federation of All India Turmeric Farmers Associations, said the Spices Board of India is planning to start a turmeric park at Elumathure village, an agriculture belt, 20 km from Erode.
He also appealed to Singh to remove turmeric from futures trading.
