MIM corporators refuse to rise for Vande Mataram, ruckus in Aurangabad civic body meet

AIMIM and SP leaders in Maharashtra have been opposed to making Vande Mataram mandatory.

Chaos reigned at the Aurangabad Municipal corporation meeting on Saturday after two corporators refused to stand for Vande Mataram. Two corporators from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen refused to stand up while the national song was being rendered leading to a ruckus.

Corporators of the Shiv Sena and the BJP slammed the MIM corporators for 'insulting' the national song and shouted slogans of Vande Mataram. The ruckus was caught on camera and came as an embarrassment to the civic body. The incident took place during the general body meeting of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation. Two corporators of MIM remained seated as Vande Mataram was being played infuriating other members.

Corporators of the BJP and Shiv Sena started shouting slogans against the two MIM corporators and damaged microphones, fans and furniture in the assembly hall. The Mayor, Bhagwandas Ghadamode, then suspended both corporators for 'insulting' the national song. The AIMIM is the largest Opposition party with 25 corporators while the ruling Shiv Sena has 29 and the BJP 22 in the municipal corporation.
