Milind Deora Parts Ways With Congress, Ends 55-Year-Old Relation; What Next?
Deora family's 55-year association with Congress came to an end after Milind Deora announced his resignation on Sunday. The Deora family holds a big impact in Maharashtra politics and Milind Deora's resignation will surely affect the INDIA bloc in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.
"Today marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in my political journey. I have tendered my resignation from the primary membership of Congress, ending my family's 55-year relationship with the party...," Milind Deora, the son of Congress veteran Murli Deora, wrote in a post on micro-blogging site X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to the reports, Milind Deora is likely to join Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena group in Maharashtra. Deora, a day ago, Milind Deora had scrapped the speculation calling the reports "just rumours'.
The reports added that Milind Deora will join the Shinde ground along with his supporters at 2 pm today.
Reacting to the big development in Maharashtra Politics, Congres leader Jairam Ramesh recalled Milind Deora's father Murli Deora, and the relationship between the grand old party stating the Congress stalwart stood by the party through thick and thin. "I recall my long years of association with MURLI Deora with great fondness. He had close friends in all political parties but was a stalwart Congressman who ALWAYS stood by the Congress party - through thick and thin. Tathastu!" Jairam Ramesh said in X post.
Congress leader also underlined the timing of Milind Deora's resignation stating his departure is clearly determined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
For the unversed, Milind Deora is a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Mumbai South constituency in the Lok Sabha. He has also held ministerial positions in the government, serving as the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology in the Union Cabinet.
