Mental Health Is Important! Dental Student Commits Suicide In Greater Noida

A Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student in her second year at a in Greater Noida took her own life late on Friday night. The incident occurred in the girls' hostel on the university campus, as confirmed by police on Saturday. The student was discovered hanging in her room, prompting police to send her body for a postmortem examination.

Upon receiving the distressing news, the student's family hurried to the hostel. Police officials coordinated with them to manage necessary legal and procedural requirements. A forensic team was also dispatched to thoroughly inspect the room and gather any potential evidence. Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Allegations of Harassment

A suicide note found in the student's room accused two faculty members from the university's dental department of mental harassment. The note named one male and one female staff member, leading to their arrest following an FIR filed by police. Greater Noida ADCP Sudhir Kumar stated, "We have filed an FIR and arrested the two people named in the note."

The student's recent signs of mental distress had gone unreported before this incident. As news of her death spread, students within the hostel protested against the university administration, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter. They raised slogans late into the night, calling for justice and transparency.

In response to these events, both family members and classmates of the deceased have been assured by authorities of a swift and transparent investigation process. "The situation in the college has now returned to normal," added ADCP Sudhir Kumar.
