Meet this real hero, a 73-year-old farmer who donated for Chennai floods

Belgaum, Dec 20: During the recent rains in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu, various corporates, companies, politicians and celebrities extended their help in bringing back normalcy to the flood-hit people.

Common citizens and netizens also joined hands in providing financial assistance. Amid all the possible help towards Chennai flood victims, an inspiring story has come to the fore. Laxman Rukmanne Katambale is a farmer from Kadoli village in Belgaum district of Karnataka.

He owns three acres of farmland in his village and has suffered from crop loss this year due to droughts. He is currently burdened with a loan of Rs 25,000, but none of his personal problems have stopped him from coming forward and donating for the flood victims in Chennai.

73-year-old Laxman visited the Deputy Commissioner's office and donated Rs 5,000 for the victims of Chennai floods, according to a report published in All About Belgaum.

After his wife passed away five years ago, Laxman has been leading a quiet and solitary life. He doesn't have any children.

In an interview with a leading daily, he was quoted saying as, "I have very few requirements. I do not expect much from my life. The only thing I wish to do is help anyone in need."

Laxman has been donating all he can for the society. He gives a cash prize of Rs 1,500 every year to the top ranking SSLC student of Kadoli government high school, thereby encouraging children of his village to study harder.

He has donated a Rs 78,000 for building school compound and had donated Rs 5,000 to help the victims of Nepal earthquake too.
