Accused in Meerut Police Encounter Succumbs to Injuries
An accused involved in a robbery attempt and shooting a sub-inspector in Meerut, UP, has died after sustaining bullet wounds during a police encounter.
In a dramatic turn of events, a man accused of shooting at a sub-inspector during a robbery attempt met his demise in an encounter with the police on Saturday. The incident unfolded in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, where the accused, identified as Vinay Kumar, succumbed to bullet wounds sustained during the confrontation.

The Robbery and Police Chase
On January 22, Vinay Kumar had brazenly opened fire at the police while attempting to flee after a car robbery in the Kankarkheda Police Station area. The gunfire resulted in injuries to sub-inspector Munesh Kumar, who was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Equipped with the vehicle's GPS system, the police swiftly located the fleeing robbers and initiated a high-speed chase. However, the robbers retaliated by firing at the pursuing officers, striking police outpost in-charge Munesh Kumar in the chest.
Identifying the Culprits
With the assistance of CCTV footage, the police successfully identified the robbers as Vinay Verma, Anuj, and Naresh Sagar. Determined to bring them to justice, the authorities apprehended Vinay Verma and Naresh Sagar on Saturday evening as they were preparing to escape to Agra by bus.
Confession and Attempted Escape
During interrogation, Vinay Verma confessed to being the perpetrator who had shot at the police. In a bid to retrieve the weapon used in the crime, the police escorted him to the location where it was concealed. However, Verma made a desperate attempt to escape once again, resulting in a gunshot wound to a constable's arm.
Retaliatory Action and Aftermath
In response to Verma's actions, the police surrounded him and retaliated with gunfire. The accused sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. Investigations revealed that Verma had a history of criminal activities, with multiple cases of attempted murder, robbery, violations of the Gangster Act, and theft registered against him at various police stations in the district.
The encounter in Meerut serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty. The deceased accused, Vinay Verma, had a history of criminal offenses and posed a significant threat to public safety. His demise during the encounter brings a sense of closure to the affected victims and demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the police to uphold law and order.
