Uttar Pradesh
Meerut, Feb 27: A 116-year-old man became a record breaker when he cleared 200 metres in 46.74 seconds at the 35th National Masters Athletic Championships. Born on October 6, 1897, Dharampal Gujjar was the only one competing in his category as the rest of the people were younger to him.

From Gudha village in Meerut District, he is an agricultural labourer, who claims he is fit and has participated in a number of Marathons across the country. He also participated in the one held in Kochi last year. Having won 400 metres on Tuesday, he gives credit to his friends who helped him out financially and by providing him food.

"3 to 4 Gold medals is nothing for me in events like this," he said.

Claiming that he did not seek any financial help from the government, his only disappointment was that he was not able to represent India due to lack of funds. [Read]
