The political battle over a Rajya Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh has now turned into a legal fight. Why Was Meenakshi Natarajan's Nomination Rejected?

The controversy began during the scrutiny of nominations for the Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha election when Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan's nomination was rejected.

According to the Returning Officer, the primary reason for the rejection was that Natarajan allegedly did not disclose details of a pending legal matter in Telangana in her election affidavit.

Election officials stated that candidates are required to disclose all criminal cases against them in their affidavits and that failure to do so could violate Supreme Court guidelines on electoral transparency.

Congress Calls It A Political Conspiracy

Congress leaders strongly opposed the decision and accused the BJP of manipulating the election process.

Reacting to the development, Meenakshi Natarajan alleged that the BJP had already planned to secure the seat by any means necessary.

According to her, the BJP's decision to field a third candidate despite lacking the required numbers in the Assembly suggested that it intended to engineer a political victory through other means.

Natarajan claimed that once the ruling party realised Congress legislators remained united, it turned to legal objections to eliminate its rival candidate.

She further alleged that the Returning Officer rejected her nomination without properly considering the arguments and documents submitted by the Congress side.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal described the rejection as a "malicious political strategy" by the BJP.

Venugopal argued that there was no major error in the nomination papers and claimed the move was aimed at taking away a Rajya Sabha seat from Congress.

He also alleged that after failing to influence Congress legislators, the BJP resorted to legal challenges to alter the election outcome.

Congress Leaders Protest At Election Commission

Following the rejection, several senior Congress leaders reached the Election Commission office seeking to submit a petition.
