MCD Takes Action Against Illegal Constructions in Delhi
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) took strict action against illegal constructions in January, conducting 440 demolition actions, 85 sealing actions, and 35 actions against illegal plotting. Despite Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) measures, the MCD freed approximately 70 acres of land.
In a significant move to curb illegal construction activities in the national capital, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has taken stringent action against unauthorized structures in January 2023. According to a statement released by the MCD on Tuesday, January 30, the civic authorities carried out an impressive 440 demolition actions against illegal constructions during the month.

Demolition and Sealing Drives
In addition to the demolitions, the MCD also conducted 85 sealing actions and 35 actions against illegal plotting during the same period. These actions were taken in line with the Master Plan - 2021, Unified Building Bye-Laws - 2016, and the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act - 1957.
Targeting Illegal Plotting
The MCD specifically targeted illegal plotting or colonization on agricultural land during its demolition and sealing drives. Despite the intermittent bans on construction and demolition activities due to the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) measures to control pollution levels in Delhi, the MCD managed to take effective action against unauthorized constructions.
Significant Achievements
As a result of the MCD's efforts, approximately 70 acres of land were freed from illegal plotting or colonization in January. In the last two days alone, the MCD undertook 31 demolition actions, eight sealing actions, and four actions against illegal plotting or colonization, resulting in the liberation of approximately seven acres of land in various areas across the capital.
Curbing Illegal Activities
The MCD highlighted that basic amenities like electricity and water sometimes prompt illegal construction-related activities. To address this issue, the civic body has coordinated with power supply companies and the Delhi Jal Board to immediately disconnect electricity and water connections to unauthorized constructions.
Preventing Further Construction
The MCD's primary objective is to identify and take action against unauthorized constructions, illegal plotting, and colonization at their nascent stages to prevent further growth and development of such illegal structures.
Strict Enforcement of Regulations
The MCD takes a firm stance against unauthorized constructions and strictly enforces all regulations mandated under the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act - 1957. The civic body utilizes its available infrastructure to demolish any illegal construction and has vowed to intensify its actions in the coming days.
The MCD's decisive actions against illegal constructions in Delhi demonstrate its commitment to maintaining urban order and ensuring compliance with building regulations. By targeting illegal plotting and taking prompt action to disconnect essential services, the civic body aims to deter unauthorized construction activities and protect the city's urban landscape.
