MBBS Student Released by NIA After Alleged Terror Links in Bengal

Janisur Alam, an MBBS student detained by the NIA in Bengal for alleged terror links, has been released after questioning. His mobile phone was seized for further investigation.

An MBBS student, Janisur Alam, was detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal, over suspected terror links. Alam, a student at Al-Falah University in Haryana and originally from Ludhiana, was taken into custody on Friday morning. He was picked up from Surjapur Bazar while returning from a family wedding.

Alam's movements were tracked using mobile tower data by NIA officers. They intercepted him as he was heading back with his mother and sister after attending the wedding at his ancestral home. The authorities suspected his involvement in activities related to a recent blast in Delhi.

Investigation and Release

After being questioned at the NIA's Siliguri office, Alam was released on Saturday evening. His mobile phone was confiscated, and he was instructed to appear again if summoned by the agency. Despite the questioning, no direct link to the Delhi blast has been established yet.

During the investigation, Alam allegedly tried to escape, which led to his detention. Digital devices and documents were seized from him for further examination. The NIA has not yet provided detailed information regarding his alleged connections.

Family's Reaction

Alam's family and relatives expressed disbelief over the allegations. His uncle described him as a quiet and studious individual who showed no interest in anything other than his studies. "He was a very calm and polite young man," said Alam’s uncle.

His mother also defended him, stating that her son has always been law-abiding. She found the accusations against him incomprehensible and insisted that he had no involvement in any illegal activities.

Another officer mentioned that Alam was seen behaving suspiciously near a station before his detention. However, the investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited to clarify his involvement in any unlawful activities.
