Mathura Tragedy: Excavation Triggers Building Collapse, Several Feared Trapped
A major incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura on Sunday when at least six houses collapsed in the Shahganj locality during excavation work, raising concerns that multiple people may be trapped beneath the debris.
The collapse occurred near the Maya Teela area, where digging activity-possibly linked to construction-reportedly weakened the foundations of nearby homes. According to initial reports, the buildings crumbled in rapid succession, sparking panic in the densely populated neighbourhood.

Rescue operations are in full swing, with teams from the local administration, fire department, and police at the scene. Excavators and other heavy machinery are being used to clear debris and search for any survivors or victims still trapped.
Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the collapse or provide a confirmed number of casualties or injuries.
"We received information that several buildings have collapsed in the Masani Police Station area. Debris clearance is underway. The Municipal Corporation team is present at the location with JCB machines. We're investigating how many individuals may still be buried under the rubble," said City Circle Officer Bhushan Verma, speaking to news agency ANI.
As operations continue, officials are urging locals to avoid the site to allow rescue workers to carry out efforts without disruption.
