The protests resulted in the death of one person which led to shutting down of mobile and internet services. Schools too remained shut in the Valley. Police said Abu Dujana's killing was a "huge achievement" for the government that has hardened its stand against militants after a recent spurt in violent street protests and attacks on security forces.

It was late on Monday night that the police received a tip off about a meeting of Dujana and a woman in South Kashmir. When the intelligence was confirmed as Grade A, the police started raiding the house in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Dujana was told to surrender, but he refused to do so. This led to a major encounter and after a couple of hours, the security forces blew up the house in which Dujana and his accomplice, Arif Dar were hiding. The bodies were charred beyond recognition, the forces said.
