Massachusetts Man Crashes Into Home, Stabs Five Officers After High-Speed Chase
Douglas Hagerty of Lakeville, Massachusetts is accused of injuring five police officers during a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed into a home. Among those injured was local Police Chief Edward Walsh.
In a shocking incident in Taunton, Massachusetts, a man who attempted to evade police during a traffic stop ended up leading officers on a high-speed chase that culminated in him crashing into a house and stabbing five policemen. The assailant was subsequently arrested.
High-Speed Chase Leads to Violent Confrontation

The dramatic series of events unfolded when local law enforcement tried to pull over Douglas Hagerty, 35, from Lakeville, Massachusetts. Police accused Hagerty of driving erratically but rather than complying with the officers' orders, he chose instead to speed away. This reckless decision sparked off an intense chase during which Hagerty almost hit an officer with his vehicle. In his desperate bid to escape the pursuing police cruisers, he drove directly at one car before colliding with another and ultimately crashing into the residence of one of his relatives.
Officers Sustain Injuries During Arrest
This violent confrontation did not end with the crash; it escalated further when Hagerty attacked five officers trying to apprehend him after the collision. One officer sustained serious slash wounds across his face, neck and back and had to be transported for treatment at a hospital in Boston located approximately thirty miles northwards. His current condition remains unknown as police have yet to release any updates.
The other four injured officers were treated locally including Police Chief Edward Walsh who also fell victim to this brutal assault despite being off-duty at that time but responding due his proximity to the scene. He suffered stab injuries in his stomach but was later released after receiving medical attention.
A Community Shaken by Unprecedented Violence
This horrific incident has left its mark on this small community where such violence is rare. It underscores the risks that law enforcement personnel routinely undertake while performing their duties - even something seemingly routine like pulling over an erratic driver can escalate into a life-threatening situation. The police force's dedication to maintaining law and order is commendable, as they risk their lives in the line of duty.
In conclusion, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable dangers that law enforcement officers face daily. It underscores the need for constant vigilance, preparedness and effective strategies to handle crisis situations. As we await more details on the condition of the officer sent to Boston hospital, our thoughts are with all those affected by this shocking act of violence.
