Maratha Kranti Morcha rally gets support from Balochistan

More than five lakh people are taking part in the Mumbai leg of the rally

The Maratha Kranti Morcha's rally in Mumbai has surprisingly found support from an organisation in Balochistan. A group of Marathas who have settled in Balochistan have extended their support via their organisation Marhtta Qaumii Itehad.

Descendants of the Maratha army men who were captured after the Third Battle of Panipat have settled in Balochistan. On Tuesday, members of the group posted a message supporting Maratha community's fight for reservation in Maharashtra.

The chief of Maratha Qaumi Ittehad, Wadera Din Muhammad Marhatta posted in the organisation's social media page on Tuesday in support of the rally. "Chief Maratha Qaumi Itehad fully supports this protest. In India, the community is facing injustice. I condemn it strictly. In Pakistan, the rights of the community have been established. Why can't it be the same in India?" the post read.

Wadera Din Muhammad Marhatta also said that reservation in government jobs and education should be given to the Maratha community, which is its national right. "Disfavour with the community will not be tolerated. We are with it in every protest," he added.

The mammoth rally, despite involving no sloganeering or ruckus has brought Mumbai to a standstill. Schools have been shut, the famous dabbawallahs have gone off work. Around 5,000 dabbawallahs are expected to go to Azaad Maidan to voice their support. The Samajwadi party, Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena have extended support to the rally that has sought reservation for Marathas in government jobs.
