Marans summoned in telephone exchange scam

The Maran brothers have been summoned by the special court of the CBI in connection with the telephone exchange scam. The court issued summons to former Union minister of communication and information technology Dayanidhi Maran, his elder brother and chairman of Sun Network, Kalanithi Maran among others.

They have been ordered to appear in person before the court on April 1. On that date, the accused would be given a copy of the chargesheet apart from other documents.

A case had been registered on July 23, 2013, under the Prevention of Corruption Act. It was stated that high-end telecommunication facilities had been installed in the home of Dayanidhi Maran illegally under the service category. It was alleged that bills had not been raised between 2004 and 2007 which caused loss to the exchequer.
