Manmohan Singh's Last Moments: Sudden Collapse At Home Before Hospital Admission, AIIMS Reveals
On Thursday at 8:06 PM, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92, experienced a sudden loss of consciousness in his home and was urgently transported to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. Despite the immediate commencement of resuscitative measures at his residence, efforts to revive him at the hospital were unsuccessful. Dr. Singh was declared deceased at 9:51 PM. The hospital released a statement announcing his passing, noting he was receiving care for age-related health issues before the incident on 26th December 2024.

The news of Dr. Singh's demise has led to an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum. He was a two-time Prime Minister and played a pivotal role in India's economic reforms. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on X, highlighting Dr. Singh's journey from humble beginnings to becoming a respected economist and statesman. "India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he rose to become a respected economist. He served in various government positions as well, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people's lives," Modi stated.
Family members of Dr. Singh, along with prominent figures from the Congress party, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, rushed to AIIMS upon hearing the news. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, are making their way back to Delhi from Belagavi in Karnataka, interrupting their participation in a party event to mourn the loss.
The statement from AIIMS detailed that Dr. Singh had been battling age-related health conditions prior to his sudden loss of consciousness. Immediate life-saving measures were initiated at his home, but despite all efforts to resuscitate him upon arrival at the hospital, he could not be revived. "With profound grief, we inform the demise of Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had sudden loss of consciousness at home on 26th December 2024. Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to the Medical Emergency at AIIMS, New Delhi at 8:06 PM. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM," the hospital conveyed.
