Odisha CM Reflects on Manmohan Singh's Lasting Influence on India's Economic Policies
Odisha's Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed sorrow over the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He highlighted Singh's pivotal role in steering India's economy in a new direction. Former Odisha Chief Minister and BJD leader Naveen Patnaik also mourned Singh's death, acknowledging him as a key figure in economic reforms.

Singh's demise was confirmed by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi. He had been admitted to the Emergency ward at around 8:30 PM in critical condition. His contributions as finance minister were instrumental in positioning India as a major global economy through liberal economic policies.
Economic Reforms and Leadership
Majhi praised Singh for his significant impact on India's development across various sectors during his tenure as prime minister. He stated, "As the finance minister, he gave a new direction to the country's economy." Singh's leadership was marked by dedication and integrity, leaving a lasting legacy.
On X, Majhi wrote, "Deeply saddened by the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. His dedication, integrity, and calm leadership will always be remembered. May Mahaprabhu Jagannath bless his soul and grant him eternal peace."
Legacy of Economic Reforms
Naveen Patnaik described Singh as an erudite and humble leader who played a crucial role in shaping India's economic landscape. Patnaik remarked that Singh's reforms laid the foundation for a new India, bringing positive changes to people's lives.
Patnaik shared his condolences on X, stating, "Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of former Prime Minister #ManmohanSingh. He has served the country illustriously in different capacities. The erudite and humble leader will be remembered as the architect of economic reforms which provided the foundation for the new India and brought positive changes in the lives of people. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and followers. Om Shanti."
A Visionary Leader
Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo also paid tribute to Singh on X. He described him as "a visionary leader, an exceptional economist, and a humble statesman." Deo emphasised that Singh's contributions to India's growth will be remembered fondly.
Singh served as prime minister for two terms under the Congress-led UPA government from 2004 to 2014. Despite his declining health over recent months, his legacy endures through his impactful policies and leadership.
He is survived by his wife Gurcharan Singh and three daughters. His passing marks the end of an era for Indian politics and economics, leaving behind a profound influence on the nation's trajectory.
