Congress' Manish Tewari Clinches Victory in Chandigarh, Beats BJP's Sanjay Tandon
In a closely contested battle for Chandigarh's lone Lok Sabha seat, Congress candidate Manish Tewari emerged victorious over BJP's Sanjay Tandon by a narrow margin of 2,504 votes. This win was confirmed through the official data available on the Election Commission's website. Tewari, who has previously served as a Union minister, expressed his gratitude towards the residents of Chandigarh for their support and blessings, attributing his victory to the values of justice, peace, and stability.

"This is the victory of justice, peace and stability over divisive politics -- a true win for democracy," Tewari remarked, emphasizing the role of Chandigarh's populace in upholding the Constitution. He further pledged to work towards a progressive future for Chandigarh, thanking the electorate for their faith in his leadership. Throughout the counting process, Tewari maintained a lead over Tandon, despite allegations from Congress workers about delays in declaring the final results.
The Congress party had entered the electoral fray in Chandigarh in partnership with AAP. Tewari faced criticism from his opponents who labeled him a "constituency hopper." In response, he highlighted his deep connections with Chandigarh, referencing his family's sacrifices and asserting their dedication to India. His father, VN Tewari, a notable figure assassinated by terrorists in April 1984, was remembered for his contributions as an author, professor at Panjab University, Chandigarh, and a nominated MP.
During the campaign, Tewari challenged BJP candidate Tandon to a debate on various issues to allow the citizens of the Union Territory to decide who would best represent their interests. Tewari's political career includes a victory from Punjab's Ludhiana constituency in 2009 and serving as the minister for information and broadcasting. He also won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Anandpur Sahib seat in Punjab, defeating Shiromani Akali Dal's Prem Singh Chandumajra.
The electoral contest in Chandigarh has been marked by its emphasis on democratic values and the personal histories of the candidates. With this victory, Tewari has reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Chandigarh and working towards their welfare and development.
