Manipur Violence: Photos Of Bodies Of 2 Students Goes Viral, Govt. Assures For Strict Action
The Manipur Government has assured to take stringent action against the accused who are responsible for the deaths of two students after the photos of their bodies have gone viral on social media.
A statement issued by the Manipur Chief Minister's office read that the case has already been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation to find the culprits.

The deceased students have been identified as Phijam Hemjit who was 20 years old, and Hijam Linthoingambi who was 17-year-old. respectively.
"It has come to the notice of the State Government that the photos of two students, Phijam Hemjit and Hijam Linthoingambi, who have been missing since July 2023 have surfaced on social media. It may be noted that this case has already been handed over to the CBI as per the wishes of the people of the state," the statement said.
The photos that have gone viral on social media show the two students sitting at the grassy compound of a jungle camp of an armed group.
A statement issued by the CMO office further said an investigation related to the deaths of two students is taking place. "The Manipur Police in joint collaboration with the Central security agencies are working to identify the perpetrators "who murdered the two students."
Violence in Manipur started in May after the High Court ordered the state government to consider including the non-tribal Meitei community in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
The order led to rampant ethnic clashes. Several people were killed and many people injured since ethnic violence first broke out in the state on May 3 when a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in hill districts to protest against the majority Meitei community's demand for ST status.
