Security Forces Respond

Borobekra is approximately 30 km from Jiribam town and is surrounded by dense forests and mountainous terrain. This region has experienced numerous attacks since ethnic violence erupted in May of last year. The recent violence follows discussions held in New Delhi between MLAs from the Meitei and Kuki communities aimed at resolving ongoing conflicts.

In another development, two militants were apprehended in Imphal East district on Friday night. Police identified them as Mutum Inao Singh and Khwairakpam Rajen Singh from the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group). They were arrested in the Pureiromba Khongnangkhong area.

Efforts for Peace

On October 15, a significant meeting took place in New Delhi involving around 20 MLAs from the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities of Manipur. This was their first meeting since ethnic violence began 17 months ago. Attendees included state Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, Tongbram Robindro, Th Basantakumar Singh from the Meitei side, and Kuki ministers Letpao Haokip and Nemcha Kipgen.

Naga community representatives at the meeting included MLAs Ram Muivah, Awangbow Newmai, and L Dikho. The gathering aimed to foster dialogue among these communities to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions.

The recent incidents highlight the fragile peace in Manipur despite efforts for reconciliation. Security forces remain vigilant as they work to maintain order and protect civilians amid ongoing challenges.
