Manipur elections 2017: To overthrow Ibobi, BJP on a door-to-door campaign

The Thoubal district, which has 10 seats, has been targetted specifically by the BJP, since it is the stronghold of the state Chief Minister, Ibobi Singh.

The BJP has made the campaign in Manipur a personal one. The BJP is looking to overthrow a Congress government of 15 years in the state which goes to polls on March 4 and 8. In a bid too connect with the voter, the BJP's national president Amit Shah has embarked upon a door-to-door campaign.

Apart from Shah, several other central leaders of the party will embark on such a campaign in the Thoubal district which has 10 seats. This area has been targetted specifically by the BJP, since it is the stronghold of the state Chief Minister, Ibobi Singh. Several of his family members too are contesting from this district, and the BJP feels special emphasis needed to laid in this area.

Shah, during his campaign focused on the Wangkhei constituency where the BJP's Erabot Singh is contesting against Ibobi Singh's nephew Okram Henry. During the campaign, the national president of the BJP urged the people in person to vote for a change in Manipur.

Shah, who also addressed a public rally took a shot at Ibobi Singh by saying that he was called 'Mr 10 per cent'. He said there are BJP chief ministers too who are called as 'Mr 10 per cent'. "However, this is because they have shown growth of 10 per cent," he said. During the door-to-door campaign, Shah also distributed copies of the BJP's vision document.
