Mani Shankar Aiyar predicts Congress's defeat in 2014 LS polls

AA
New Delhi, Dec 11: In an embarrassing situation, the Congress's veteran leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Tuesday predicted 'defeat' for the party in the upcoming 2014 Lok Sabha elections and said that it need to 'revamp' itself.

While talking with the neas agency Reuters, Aiyar said, " I would say it is good to lose. We can await an opportunity to do this revamping or refitting, reinvention of the party to suit the requirements of the 21st century, and that has to begin with Rajiv Gandhi's breakthrough, which is Panchayat Raj".

He also said, "Who can be even half-way realistic and expect the Congress to return to power?"

"The Congress needs a revamp and reorganization in the party structure. It's too late for introspection. I think we need a serious revolutionary change in our organisation," he said.

Cong has ideas and plans already but none of them have been applied yet: Aiyar

Aiyar also said the Congress has ideas and plans already but none of them have been applied yet.

Meanwhile, the Congress spokesperson Bhakt Charan Das soon distanced himself from Aiyar's stunning remarks by saying, "Aiyar's opinion was personal and not the party's view."

In the recently held assembly elections in five states, Congress could win only in Mizoram while BJP reckoned with power in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh while it had a good show in Delhi.
