Mangalore shocker: Man stripped, brutally thrashed by mob for talking to a girl

Mangalore, Aug 25: In a shocking incident of moral policing, a 28-year-old Muslim man was brutally thrashed, stripped and beaten up in full public view for allegedly talking to a Hindu girl.

The incident that has a potential to incite communal clashes, took place on Monday, Aug 24 evening, at Babugugge, Attavar in Mangalore district in coastal Karnataka.

According to media reports, some right-wing activists, belonging to Bajrang Dal group tied the youth to an electricity pole, where he was assaulted and tortured.

Shakir, the victim, who hails from Kulur, was allegedly talking to a Hindu girl in his car, when the mob dragged him out and assaulted him.

Onlookers even recorded the entire incident on their mobile phones and ciculated images on WhatsApp and social media sites.

Based on the pictures on social media, police is trying to trace the attackers. However, they have detained some men.

In his statement, youth told Police that he was going to an ATM to give cash to the girl, as she had asked him for a loan.

The so-called moral police also humilated the girl, when she tried to intervene. Both the boy and the girl are said to be working at EasyDay Supermarket in Attavar.
