Mangalore autorickshaw driver gets 10 yrs imprisonment for raping minor

Mangalore, Oct 22: A 26-year-old auto-rickshaw driver has been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl in Mangalore, said an

The inicdent happened on September 14, 2012. According to the chargesheet filed by Uppinangady police, the girl left to her uncle's house on the day and boarded the auto to go home. The driver Harish Gowda took her to an isolated spot in a nearby forest and sexually assaulted her.

The driver later dropped the girl near her house and also, threatened to rape her sister if she revealed the incident to anyone.

Anguished, the girl informed her mother about the incident a week later. Later, a complaint was filed against the driver. He was immediately arrested and police filed the chargesheet in December 2012.

The sentence was pronounced by the Sixth Additional District and Sessions Court judge S H Pushpanjali Devi on Tuesday.
