Man threatens to 'eliminate' minister, held

Malda(WB), March 6: One person was arrested for allegedly threatening to eliminate state minister Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury for being 'responsible' for the killing of two teenagers in December and for sending a Trinamool Congress leader in jail in Malda district, police said.

Chowdhury, the minister for food processing and horticulture, lodged a complaint with the police that someone called him up at about 8 AM and threatened him with "dire consequences".

When asked about his fault, the caller told Chowdhury that the minister was responsible for the loss of lives of two teenage boys of Kulipara locality of Englishbazar area in the district in December and subsequent jailing of local Trinamool Congress leader Pabitra Roy, police said.

Roy, Sabhapati of English Bazar Panchayat Samiti, was arrested for allegedly firing from his vehicle on December 27 in Malda, which killed two teenagers, they said.

The two were shot dead when some persons, fleeing in a car after fatally hitting a cyclist, allegedly fired on a mob chasing them at Kulipara in Malda district. Roy, who was using the vehicle, was arrested and is now in judicial custody.

Following the FIR of the minister, the police arrested the caller, identified as Naresh Chowdhury, from his residence at Kulipara.
