Man rapes, attempts to bury toddler in Karnataka, booked under POCSO

The incident comes on the close heels of the cold-blooded murder of a Gurgaon school student

The Belagavi police arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly raping and attempting to bury a child alive. The accused, identified as Subhash Mahadev, has been arrested and booked under POCSO.

Subhash is accused of luring a 2 and a half year old child with chocolates on Friday evening and raping her. According to the victim's family, the man strangled the child when she screamed for help making her unconscious. Alarmed that the child had died, the accused attempted to bury her near the anganwadi where he had sexually assaulted her. He was caught red-handed by villagers who were looking for the missing child. He was digging a pit when he was spotted.

The accused escaped when the child was being attended to but was caught by the locals on Saturday. The accused was thrashed before being handed over to the police.

The young victim is said to be critical and is being treated at the local government hospital. Heavy blood loss came as a challenge to doctors at the hospital.
