New Delhi, April 19: The farmers from Tamil Nadu protesting at Jantar Mantar in the national capital are leaving no stone unturned to attract the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, so that their two main demands--loan waiver and compensation for their crop failure-are met immediately.
Recently, we saw three TN farmers staging a nude protest right in front of the Prime Minister Office after they were denied an audience with PM Modi. Few days before that, a man wearing a Modi mask was seen in the protest site. The rest of the protesters were seen pleading in front of 'masked' PM Modi.
On Tuesday, once again a man wearing a mask of PM Modi was seen flogging the protesters. Actually, the man in Modi mask was one of the protesting farmers. The farmers told the media that the idea of making one of their friends wear a Modi mask and PM's trademark jacket and kurta and make him flog the farmers was to showcase the 'insensitive attitude' of the Centre towards their plight.
"By ignoring us, it is like Modi is whipping us and trying to beat us out of Delhi... Sometimes I think if we get arrested it might be better. Jail would be better than this," P Ayyakkannu, the state president of the National South-Indian Rivers Linking Farmers' Association, leading the protest told Hindustan Times.
The farmers have been protesting for more than a month now in Delhi. Around 80-odd farmers protesting at Jantar Mantar caught the attention of the media, when they found a couple of skulls with the farmers.
The farmers started their protest by showcasing skulls at the protest venue. The skulls are said to belong to the farmers who committed suicide due to ongoing drought in the state.
