Man killed by elephants in UP

Bahraich, Apr 5: A 35-year-old man was killed after being attacked by a herd of elephants in Katarniyaghat forest range here, forest department spokesman said.

Rudal was on his way to the market through the forest route along with other villagers when the elephants from the Nepal side attacked them, he said.

The herd was chased away after long efforts by the locals who rushed to the aid of the victim, the spokesman said.

An immediate financial assistance of Rs 20,000 has been provided to the bereaved family by WWF and an assurance of Rs 5 lakh from the government has also been given after completion of formalities, he added.
