Man Jumps to Death from Shahdara Flyover in Delhi While Evading Police Arrest

A man reportedly leapt to his death from the Shahdara flyover on Thursday afternoon. This incident occurred when Delhi police attempted to arrest him for alleged links with a jailed gangster. The police identified the deceased as Jakir, also known as Sonu, who had ten criminal cases against him.

Man Jumps to Death in Delhi Incident

Sonu was believed to be part of a gang led by the imprisoned gangster Irfaan, also known as Chhenu, operating in eastern Delhi. Along with Sonu, four other suspects named Afsar, Nadeem, Abid, and Shoaib were apprehended at the Shahdara flyover. They were travelling in an SUV around 10:30 am on Thursday.

Police Encounter and Tragic Incident

During the police inspection, Jakir attempted to escape and jumped off the flyover. As he fell, he tried to grab a tree branch but slipped and landed on the road below. He sustained critical injuries from the fall. Police officers immediately took him to GTB hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The police recovered several weapons from the suspects. These included an Austria-made revolver with seven live cartridges, two .30 bore pistols, and three country-made firearms. The officer mentioned that Sonu was reportedly taking anti-depressants, although this information is yet to be confirmed.

Ongoing Investigation

The local police have been notified about the incident, and an investigation is currently underway. Authorities are working to gather more details about Sonu's involvement with the gang and any potential connections with other criminal activities.

This tragic event highlights ongoing concerns about gang-related activities in Delhi. The police continue their efforts to dismantle such networks and bring those involved to justice.
