Man Crosses Pakistan Border To Meet Lover He Met On Facebook; Arrested

A man from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has been detained in Pakistan for crossing the border without permission. The 30-year-old, identified as Badal Babu, reportedly entered Pakistan to meet a woman he fell in love with on Facebook. Pakistani authorities are investigating his motives, as this isn't his first attempt at crossing the border illegally.

Badal Babu's family learned of his arrest through social media. His father, Kripal Singh, mentioned that Babu had visited home 20 days before Diwali and last spoke to them on November 30 via video call. During the call, Babu mentioned that his work was completed. The family is now urging the government to facilitate his return.

Cross-Border Love Stories

This incident is not unique; cross-border love stories have surfaced before. Notable cases include Seema Haider and Iqra Jeewani, both Pakistani nationals who entered India illegally for love. Seema met her partner while playing PUBG, while Iqra connected through an online Ludo game.

In 2023, reports described Iqra Jeewani as a "shy teenager" who sold jewellery and borrowed money to buy air tickets to Dubai and Kathmandu before entering India. Such stories highlight the challenges faced by individuals in strained India-Pakistan relations.

Legal Proceedings and Investigations

Babu was arrested on December 27 after failing to present travel documents. He was charged under Sections 13 and 14 of Pakistan's Foreigners Act, 1946. Currently in judicial custody for 14 days, he is due back in court on January 10, 2025.

The Aligarh police are still gathering information about Babu's case. SSP Sanjeev Suman stated that no official communication has been received from Pakistan or the Indian Embassy yet. Authorities continue to investigate whether there were other reasons behind Babu's illegal entry.

Strained Relations Between Neighbours

India and Pakistan have a complex relationship marked by three wars since their partition in 1947. This history often complicates visa processes for citizens wishing to visit each other's countries. Despite these challenges, stories of cross-border romances continue to emerge.

Babu's previous attempts to cross into Pakistan had failed twice before he succeeded this time. Upon reaching Mandi Bahauddin city, he reportedly met the woman he had been communicating with online. His actions have raised suspicions among Pakistani authorities regarding his true intentions.
