Man arrested for posing as woman on instagram to extort money

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly creating a fake profile on Instagram in the name of a woman and luring men to extort money.

The accused ingeniously used e-wallets to get the extorted money and later transferred that money to his bank accounts. One of his fake ID on Instagram had reached over 1 million followers.

The accused has been identified as Akash Chaudhary, a Gurgaon rsident, who used weak security settings in different accounts to download images and videos of women from their social media and later created pages impersonating them.

Investigation revealed that the accused had used their pictures to lure males into unethical chats and later blackmail them.

Chaudhary had previously worked with a call centre which helped him gain knowledge about online marketing and the amount of money it could help him earn in a short time.
