Malegaon blasts: Accused's plea to add 'Shri' against his name rejected

If it is done selectively, then it amounts to discrimination, the prosecution said.

A peculiar plea was filed in a court where an accused sought to include "Shri" against while being addressed in all court records. The plea filed by Sudhakar Dwivedi an accused in the Malegaon blasts case.

The court however rejected his petition. Dwivedi argued that just because he is an accused, it does not mean that the salutation 'Shri" should not be used while addressing him. He said that he has a right to be treated with dignity and this age old salutation must be used.

The prosecution however opposed the same and said that if they use Shri from one accused, then it must be done for others too. If it is done selectively, then it amounts to discrimination, the prosecution said while also adding that there would be no loss of dignity if the salutation was not used.
