Make Yakub Memon's wife RS member, says SP leader

Mumbai, Aug 1: Making a desperate attempt to capitalize on a sentiment, a leader of the Samajwadi Party has written to Mulayam Singh Yadav asking him to nominate Yakub Memon's widow to the Rajya Sabha.

The letter written by Farooq Ghosi, the vice president of the Maharashtra State Unit of the SP seeks the nomination of Yakub Memon's wife as Rajya Sabha member.

The Samajwadi Party leader from Maharashtra in his letter has stated that Raheen Memon be made a Rajya Sabha member. He attempts to raise a sentiment that suggests that Yakub Memon was wrongly hanged.

The hanging of Yakub Memon has led to several debates and one includes whether he paid for his brother Tiger Memon's sins.

In the letter, Ghosi writes that the Raheen had been a victim of injustice. She had been jailed too, but was released after being held innocent, Ghosi points out in the letter to Yadav.

The Samajwadi Party has however not reacted to the letter. It intends keeping a safe distance from the leader's request. The Samajwadi Party has in fact said that the letter is wrong.

However on the other hand Azam Khan a senior SP leader had said that those who supported the hanging of Yakub Memon were attempting to divide society.
