ISI suspect from Sri Lanka sentenced to 5 years imprisonment
New Delhi, Nov 28: In a major victory for the National Investigating Agency a court has convicted and sentenced an ISI suspect from Sri Lanka, Sakir Hussain, 37, to five years imprisonment after holding him guilty off terror charges.
He has confessed that he conspired with Pakistan high commission officials in Sri Lanka to unleash terror in India. Hussain was arrested in Chennai in May this year and has been lodged in prison.
The NIA had filed a case against Sakir Hussain connection with the criminal conspiracy to commit terrorist acts targeting a foreign Consulate located in South India as well as to circulate high quality fake Indian currency notes and there by threatening the security and monetary stability of the country.
The Sakir Hussain case had become significant due to the Sri Lankan link to it. It was alleged that he was scouting for targets in South India at the behest of the ISI which had set up its base at the Pakistan consulate in Colombo.
