Voting in Alinagar is set for 6th November. Known for her melodious voice and strong social media presence, Maithili is now venturing into politics. However, she faces a tough challenge.

The election has transformed from a BJP versus RJD battle to a 'local versus outsider' debate. Maithili's biggest hurdle is whether Alinagar will accept her. Her ancestral home is in Madhubani district, and she grew up in Delhi. The opposition highlights this fact prominently.

Local vs Outsider Debate

RJD candidate Vinod Mishra, who is entirely local, emphasizes that "Alinagar needs its own people, not outsiders." Meanwhile, the BJP argues that Maithili represents "new ideas and a new Bihar," transcending geographical boundaries.

The BJP has pulled out all stops for Maithili's campaign. Central Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and other prominent leaders have held rallies here. Dharmendra Pradhan himself oversees this seat's campaign.

BJP's Campaign Strategy

The party hopes Maithili's popularity and youthful image will attract Alinagar voters. However, opponents claim there's a gap between her "singing fame" and "political acumen." While people attend her rallies to hear her sing, whether they'll vote for her remains uncertain.

This time, RJD has fielded Vinod Mishra as their candidate. In 2020, he contested with the VIP party but lost narrowly to BJP's Mishri Lal Yadav by just 3,101 votes. Now with an RJD ticket, he aims to secure the Yadav-Muslim-Brahmin vote bank.

Alinagar's Electoral History

Alinagar constituency was established after the 2008 delimitation. In 2010 and 2015, RJD's Abdul Bari Siddiqui won here. In 2020, VIP party's Mishri Lal Yadav defeated the RJD candidate by a slim margin.

This time around, Vinod Mishra returns to the fray amidst changing dynamics—VIP's influence has waned while BJP introduces Maithili as a fresh face.

Challenges Ahead

Alinagar includes Alinagar, Tardih, and Ghanshyampur blocks under Darbhanga Lok Sabha seat. Floods between Kosi and Kamla rivers are perennial issues both parties address differently this election.

Despite being new to politics, Maithili Thakur has made Alinagar one of the hottest political battlegrounds. Factors like youth versus experience, outsider versus local ties, and Brahmin versus social equations play significant roles here.

The outcome will reveal if Maithili can harmonize her singing charm with political success or if Alinagar sticks with tradition once more.
