Mahua Moitra Calls Out Narendra Modi's Derogatory Remarks Towards Women Leaders In Politics

Mahua Moitra, a TMC MP, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. She highlighted instances where he had made derogatory remarks about women leaders in the Opposition. Her comments followed the PM's criticism of the RJD and Congress for recent comments about his mother. BJP supporters have also held protest marches in various states over remarks made during the Voter Adhikar Yatra last week.

In a post on X, Moitra wrote, "From the Didi O Didi streetside hoot against Mamata Banerjee to Jersey Cow and Congress ki Vidhwa against Sonia Gandhiji to 50 crore ki Girlfriend for Shashi Tharoor's wife…Honourable Narendra Modi has said it all. Today's Mind Your Language speech from him is a bit rich!"

Modi's Past Remarks

PM Modi's controversial comments were made during various rallies and events, each causing significant backlash. The 'Congress ki vidhwa' remark was reportedly made at a Rajasthan rally in 2018 while discussing alleged misuse of the widow pension scheme. Critics saw it as an indirect attack on Sonia Gandhi.

Reports indicate that Modi referred to Sonia Gandhi as a 'Jersey cow' during LK Advani's Bharat Uday Yatra in 2004. He later apologised for this comment. Meanwhile, the 'Didi O Didi' phrase was used prominently before the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections to question Mamata Banerjee's leadership.

Controversial Comments

The Trinamool Congress criticised the 'Didi O Didi' slogan, calling it disrespectful and accusing Modi of insulting women with its sarcastic tone. Modi had suggested that Banerjee's political career was ending and accused her of betraying Bengal's trust.

"Wah kya girlfriend hai. Apne kabhi dekha hai 50 crore ka girlfriend?" The Indian Express quoted Modi during a 2012 election rally. Though he didn't name anyone, it was widely seen as referring to Sunanda Pushkar amid controversies involving Shashi Tharoor and an IPL cricket issue in 2010.

Bihar Incident

On Tuesday, PM Modi expressed shock over derogatory remarks made in Bihar about his mother by RJD-Congress members. "Mother is our world. Mother is our self-respect," he stated, adding that such comments insulted not just his mother but all mothers, sisters, and daughters across India.

He emphasised how deeply hurt he felt by these insults and acknowledged that people in Bihar shared his pain. "I know… how bad all of you, every mother of Bihar, felt after seeing and hearing this! I know, as much pain as I have in my heart, the people of Bihar are also in the same pain," he said.
