Maharashtra: Pune Municipal Corporation Razes Bhide Wada To Build Jyotiba Phule And Savitribai Phule Memorial

Following the Apex Court orders, the Pune Municipal Corporation razed the dilapidated structure of Bhide Wada in Pune on Tuesday. According to the reports, a national memorial dedicated to social reformers Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule will be built here now. Sadly, the civic body also demolished a school started in 1848 by the social reformers to promote education for girls.

The Bhide Wada is located in the Budhwar Peth area of Pune.

Many people whose houses and shops were there refused to vacate the place and moved to court to seek help. However, because of the dilapidated structure that could have fallen anytime and might have caused a big accident, the court ordered the shop owners and tenants to vacate the premises. It directed the civic body to raze it.

"An official of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) said, "The structure is being brought down, and we will proceed further for the national memorial project-related work at the site."

To control the situation, the police force was deployed in the area before the civic body demolished the old and dangerous structures. It was completely demolished sometime after midnight.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandip Singh Gill told the media that many people had not vacated the property despite the court's orders and PMC notices to control the situation, the Police were deployed after the Pune Municipal Corporation asked for help to control the situation during the demolishment.
